| Although he was also a gifted clarinetist, Sidney Bechet is mostly associated with the soprano saxophone. His vibrancy with the lively vibrato made him a model for many other jazz musicians. He was the first to make the soprano saxophone to his main instrument. The existentialistic youth in France admired Bechet as ‘Le Dieu‘ (the god). Famous recordings are among others ‘Petite Fleur‘, ‘Weary Blues‘ and the very first recording of Gershwin‘s ‘Summertime‘. |
