Faust Die Rockoper (Goethe goes Rock 'n' Roll) (DVD)

| Goethe’s main work was produced by composer and director Rudolf Volz as a thrilling, fascinating rock spectacle - Volz transformed Faust into a modern stage show that is still enjoying performances on Brocken in the Harz Mountains to this very day. Faust - The Rock Opera is now available as a 2 DVD set in book format. |
Twenty-five independent song titles were put together based on Goethe’s original texts and reflect the important stages in the events in Faust; Volz’s idea was to combine the old with the new and to make Goethe’s classical body of thought equally appealing for both present day and future generations.
The songs performed by Faust and Mephistopheles range from heavy to death metal - in keeping with the motto ‘Goethe goes rock’n’roll’ - whereas Grete’s songs are more influenced by modern pop. The accompanying 32-page booklet is in German and contains all the verses, so that the listener can read along or refer to the booklet while watching the DVDs; the booklet also contains information about the historical Faust figure and the Faust myth. The DVD also features subtitles in German, English, French, Spanish and Italian.
... a symbiosis of Goethe’s texts and modern rock music that exercises its very own fascination. Perfectly suited to help younger audiences lose their fear of contact with the classical text - and to surprise well-versed Faust experts with an entirely new version of the work. (Freie Presse) |
